Capabilities, Opportunities, and Motivations to Repair
A Study of Participants in Repair Cafés in Aotearoa New Zealand
2024 Research Report
This report employs the Capabilities-Opportunities-Motivations Behaviour (COM-B) model as a framework for understanding repair behaviour in Aotearoa New Zealand. The research draws on interviews with 20 Repair Café visitors from six cafés and 23 expert repair volunteers from eight cafés, conducted between November 2021 and March 2024. The COM-B framework enables systematic analysis of the factors that facilitate or hinder repair behaviour, examining individual capabilities, environmental opportunities, and personal motivations that influence engagement with community repair initiatives.
